Regional Connections
How does the Streetcar fit into the regional transportation network?
The Arlington Streetcar Network will provide a vital link stretching all the way from Skyline in Fairfax County, along Columbia Pike, through Pentagon City, Crystal City and Potomac Yard to the Alexandria border. Eventually, Streetcar service is expected to extend into Alexandria - perhaps to the Braddock Road Metro, perhaps to the new Potomac Yard Metro, perhaps elsewhere. Alexandria has put off their Streetcar plans temporarily while they focus on funding the new Potomac Yard Metro Station (estimated to cost more than $200 million).
In addition, Fairfax County is currently studying transit alternatives along Route 7 - their is strong potential for a Streetcar line there - and DC is undertaking a study of the Long Bridge across the Potomac River including the possibility of a streetcar connection between the Arlington and DC Streetcar lines.
